The Monday Morning Memo

Theodore Roosevelt
was President of the United States in 1907 when Oklahoma put the 46th star on our flag. Transportation was mostly by horse-and-carriage, covered wagon or steam train.

Teddy was still President in 1908 when BAM! Henry Ford debuted the Model T and BAM! oil production began in the Middle East.
But neither of those events was news. No one had a clue 105 years ago that the next hundred years would be dominated by automobiles and the black liquid fossil than propels them forward. The really big news 105 years ago was the earthquake and tsunami in Southern Italy that killed more than 80,000 people.

Astronomers call it “the transit of Venus” when that planet appears to pass across the face of the sun. It happened in 2012 and won’t happen again for 105 years. People who see the 2117 transit will look at you and me the way we look back at Teddy Roosevelt and Henry Ford.

The wizard told me to ask you to invest 2 minutes, 54 seconds to watch this video. I’ll tell you why when we get one level deeper into this rabbit hole. (Start the video and then click the “expand image” button at the bottom right to see a full-screen version. Amazing.)

Random Quote:

“A strong voice said, “More men fail through lack of purpose than lack of talent.”

Abram, listening, says with a sigh, “Everyone talks about purpose, but no one explains what it is.”

An old man appears. He lifts Abram’s chin, looks into his eyes and says, “Purpose is given to you by what you care about. Is there anything you care about?”

Abram nods his head yes.

“Pick it up and carry it high above your head.”

Abram rises to his feet and looking upward, lifts both of his arms to the sky.

The old man whispers, “Look at the horizon and start walking. And take what you carry with you wherever you go.”

Abram starts walking.

The old man disappears.”
