The Monday Morning Memo

A new restaurant near Wizard Academy! Just 7 minutes away, Italian food made from scratch. Extraordinary. Dinner only Tues-Sat. Not open for lunch except on Sunday. Closed Monday.

The Trattoria Lisina has inside dining and an extensive terrace overlooking their vineyards. Just a few miles further out in the country than the Salt Lick, a visit to this fine Italian restaurant is one more tradition you'll want to add to your list when you come to Wizard Academy in the Texas hill country.

Far from the cry of the city, it's easy to believe you're in Sicily.

The Mandola Winery is adjacent to the Trattoria Lisina restaurant.

Be sure to pop in for a wine tasting and a tour if the vineyard is open. It's right next door to the restaurant.

“‘A Whiter Shade Of Pale’ becomes utterly mesmerizing the moment Matthew Fisher’s Hammond organ pierces the air.

Procol Harum’s singer Gary Brooker was responsible for writing the music, although Fisher’s organ part was so prominent that he also eventually received a songwriting credit after a protracted court battle.

Keith Reid, who served as the band’s chief lyricist, wrote the words that have confounded generations of fans who still can’t help but singing along. In an interview with Uncut magazine, Reid shed a little light on the song’s origin and meaning:

‘I had the phrase ‘a whiter shade of pale,’ that was the start, and I knew it was a song,’ he said. ‘It’s like a jigsaw where you’ve got one piece, then you make up all the others to fit in. I was trying to conjure a mood as much as tell a straightforward, girl-leaves-boy story. With the ceiling flying away and room humming harder, I wanted to paint an image of a scene.'”
