The wizard spoke in the PS of today’s Monday Morning Memo about the Pendulum of society and how we swing from one extreme to the other overy 40 years. We’ve been quoting G.K. Chesterton a lot today. Here’s what the G.K. had to say about the swing of the pendulum in 1910, 104 years ago.
The whole curse of the last century has been what is called the Swing of the Pendulum; that is, the idea that Man must go alternately from one extreme to the other. It is a shameful and even shocking fancy; it is the denial of the whole dignity of the mankind. When Man is alive he stands still. It is only when he is dead that he swings.”
– G.K. Chesterton, “The New House,” Alarms and Discursions (1910)
Like the wizard said, we have a beautiful dream – and are in perfect balance – when the pendulum hangs vertically. But alas, it isn’t self-contained. It is always in motion. And the momentum of our attraction toward “another good thing” means we’ll definitely take it too far. Sigh.
Did you also read earlier in this rabbit hole how the House of the Lost Boys is going to be the masculine corollary to Engelbrecht House, the House of the Broken Angels? If you click Brother Tyson, you will begin a circular angel journey that will never end. Welcome to the fifth dimension.
Big fun next week.
I’ll see you then.
(If you make it out of the circular angel journey. Heh, heh, heh.)

PS – Notice how this live performance of The Fifth Dimension (A Woody Allen special, Sept. 21, 1969) opens on a close-up of a clock. Here’s what Russell Jones had to say about it 4 weeks ago.
(And is a major 9th even a real thing? – Indy)
Wow! This was actually a “live” performance by the fabulous 5th Dimension. They, and many musical artists of the time, would often lip-synch their songs on T.V. shows (primarily because of logistics, time constraints, performance clearance rights etc.) This was wonderful. I wish the quality of the video were better. While the actual recording has a fade ending…I loved the way they did it here…a beautiful major 9th chord.”
