The Monday Morning Memo

Art is the language of the brain’s right hemisphere; science is the language of the left. And the tug-of-war between the two gives us a funny, dual consciousness; the heart whispers one thing while the mind declares another.

This is why the hardest choices in life are the choices between two good things: mercy and justice, loyalty and honesty, the impulse of play and the discipline of restraint: right brain and left.

To create
 art
is to lift a fish from the water of the unconscious. Water, like emotion, constantly moves and flows. Fish are unresolved ideas about which your views are being shaped and formed. What will you pull up from the deep?

I believe our instinctive interpretation of the languages of the collective unconscious can be explained to the logical left brain. This is the basis of our 2-day class, Portals and the 12 Languages of the Mind. To understand the 12 languages (shape, color, radiance, etc.) is to become more persuasive, more effective in your ability to express yourself, better able to mold the emotions of others. Taught once a year by Roy H. Williams, the next class is coming up Sept. 21-22.

Random Quote:

“I was losing my faith in books. I 'd begun to realize that there was an unspoken prejudice among book-learned people, a secret conviction they all seemed to share, that life as we know it is an imperfect vision of reality, and that only art, like a pair of reading glasses, can correct it. The scholars and intellectuals I met at our dinner table always seemed to hold a grudge against the world.”
