The Monday Morning Memo

Your Mama told me you’ve been troubled.
Your Mama told me you’ve been sad.
Your Mama told me you’ve been worried;
That things are lookin’ pretty bad.

I told your Mama not to worry.
I told your Mama not to cry.
I told your Mama we’d come through this.
We’re invincible, you and I.

She said to tell you that she loves you.
She said to tell you that she cares.
She said to tell you not to worry,
Because she’s talked to the man upstairs.

He told her that you’d come through this.
He told her that you’d be fine.
He told her the problem was no longer yours.
He told her the problem was mine.

So I took it on myself to solve this
And I decided what I’ll do
Is take your place in the middle of it all
And stand up and die for you.

But don’t let your heart be troubled.
Because I’ve got something to say.
I’ll come back three days later.

I’ll see you on Easter Day.

“

Harry Bosch and his daughter Maddie are sitting in Taylor’s Steak House late at night. Maddie is telling her Dad about the breach in relationship she is experiencing with her partner on the police force.

M: “We just drive around in silence most of the time.”

H: “You’ll get it back.”

M: “I don’t know.”

H: “Partners are like family. Any minor world that breaks apart falls together again.”

M: “You’re quoting Steely Dan to me?”

H: “From before you were born. That’s a good catch.”

M: “Hey, yacht rock was Mom’s guilty pleasure, guess it’s mine, too.”

H: “Any major dude will tell you.”
