Monday Morning Memo

Today’s MondayMorningMemo
revolved around this idea:

“Find out what people want, then give it to them.”

This is probably the last time I will update you on our Youtube channels. Not because I’m trying to keep anything from you, but because it feels to me like I am asking you to look at photos of me and my family on vacation.

When I share what I am doing, almost everyone seems to be profoundly uninterested or a little bit annoyed and frustrated that I don’t have a business reason for doing it.

We won’t be “monetizing” these channels, or selling anything, or trying to attract clients. These channels will never have an “ask” of any kind. We don’t even suggest to people that they “like and subscribe.”

We are giving people in each of the 24 time zones around the world what they want. We are doin it because it makes us feel good.

Weirdly, that frustrates a lot of people who have asked me why we are doing this.

These are the specific objectives for our channels.

1. Tribal Gospel is a music channel featuring original songs to encourage Christians in countries around the world where Christianity is the minority religion. This is why the videos always show the lyrics of the songs in a large, scrolling text.

Lots of people can understand English, especially if they can read along with it while they are listening. By subscribing to Tribal Gospel, people are saying, “I like this! Please send more.”

We always instruct Youtube to show these videos only to people who have typed  “Jesus” “Bible” or “ChristianMusic” into the Youtube search engine. It is not our objective to annoy people of other faiths.

The lyrics to these songs were written by humans without the assistance of AI.

The music, of course, is necessarily created with the assistance of AI. It would be impossible to do what we are doing if we had to assemble the wide variety of performers that would be necessary to produce a new song every day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Lastly, I have chosen not to promote these channels in the United States because the absence of video content in our Youtube shorts (other than the scrolling text) is completely out-of-step with American sensibilities and expectations. No one in America wants or needs what we are doing.

2. GreatWritersSeries is smaller than TribalGospel because people who love Jesus are a bigger group than that small collection of us who love English Literature. And even those who do love great writing don’t need it as much as a believer in Jesus needs  affirmation and encouragement.

3.  Absurdocrats is where we put things that don’t fit the other three channels. Creativity takes off in a weird direction sometimes, and Absurdocrats is where it lands.

The slogan of the Absurdocrats channel is, “Laugh a little, Cry a little, Think a little.”

4. AmericanBusinessSecrets was born 14 days ago. I decided to launch it when I realized two things:

(A.) Dozens of countries resent America, but they also know that we are extremely good at selling things to each other. To give business owners in other countries the benefit of a non-traditional perspective on every aspect of running a business would definitely be something that they would like to have, especially if they could have it delivered in little bitesize nuggets.

(B.) I have 87 partners who can give amazing advice on selling, advertising, and recruiting employees. They can also deliver a host of other valuable business tips, but

(C.) I also have at least 100 friends who possess specialized knowledge about financing, accounting, cash-flow, inventory, manufacturing, distribution, franchising, and a long list of other things that fall outside the scope of what my partners and I do each day. I am convinced that several of these friends will be happy to create the occasional piece of content for AmericanBusinessSecrets.

If you have nuggets of knowledge that you believe would be valuable to business owners around the world – and you are okay with the fact that we have no interest in becoming known in America – then please watch some of the videos at AmericanBusinessSecrets and then send Corrine@WizardOfAds.com a ready-to-record script (not to exceed 2 minutes and 50 seconds when read out loud) of something that you believe might fit the channel. But please don’t expect a quick reply. As you can see, we are currently busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest, so it might take a while for us to get back to you.

Aroo.

“I asked a CEO of one of the biggest industrial groups in India which is on the verge of bankruptcy, why this happened? He replied: ‘Bosses who don’t listen will eventually be surrounded by people who have nothing to say.'”
